The life of an Ocado driver: Q&As

A key part of the Ocado experience is receiving your delivery from one of our friendly drivers. We know you’d love to hear more about them, so here three of our incredible drivers answer your burning questions.

Lance

Lance has been making Ocado deliveries for 9 months. His favourite products are the M&S ready meals and stonebaked pizza range.

Which van do you like driving most?
“The Lemon van, because I am a writer and I love alliteration, ‘Lance in the lemon van’ – plus, yellow is the cheeriest colour.”

What do you enjoy listening to while you’re driving?
“Classic FM.”

What is the nicest thing a customer has said to you?
“The service that we receive from Ocado is the best and you are the best of the best, Lance.”

How many deliveries do you do a day?
“On average, 18 deliveries a day.”

Where is your favourite place to deliver?
“The New Forest area in daylight hours, Bournemouth and Poole. The open areas of Bath, but not the tight areas of that city.”

Scott

Scott has been with us for 14 years and, as a Liverpool supporter, likes to drive the Raspberry van.

What do you enjoy listening to while you’re driving?
“Talksport mainly, but also house, drum and bass, hip hop and a few bands.”

What is the nicest thing a customer has said to you?
“I love receiving positive feedback from customers, especially when they say I was ‘a helpful young man’ – I’m 49!”

What’s your favourite Ocado memory?
“Once I was asked to take a special route that involved a delivery in Paris.”

How many deliveries do you do a day?
“It really varies, between 10–35 deliveries per day.”

Where is your favourite place to deliver?
“I reckon I’ve delivered to over 30,000 households in the last 14 years. I used to like driving the business routes in central London as I could see all the sights, but now I prefer driving around the countryside.”

OWEN

Owen has been an Ocado driver for over two years and loves listening to cheesy music he can sing along to while driving.

DO YOU LIKE TO CHAT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS WHEN MAKING DELIVERIES?
“Of course! It’s lovely stopping to have a brief chat or a laugh with customers – without them we wouldn’t be the success we are today. Also, I can’t forget all the friendly four-legged friends I meet, just don’t tell my cat…!”

HOW MANY DELIVERIES DO YOU DO A DAY?
“On average, 15–25 customers per day.”

Which van do you like driving most?
Raspberry, closely followed by Lemon.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO DELIVER?
“Thanks to Ocado, I’ve been able to visit so many new places. I love being able to clock a few miles, so a run into the country is my preferred option.”

What is the nicest thing a customer has said to you?
“As drivers, we are the face of Ocado. Out of the hundreds of people involved in a delivery, customers only ever meet us, the drivers, when we turn up to their door. I take my job seriously, so I strive to deliver the best customer experience possible every time, regardless of the day I’m having. It’s lovely getting feedback from our customers, it allows me to see where I’m going right or going wrong. My favourite kind of feedback would be: ‘Driver was fantastic. Punctual, polite and very helpful. We were very impressed with him.’”
