The Life Of An Ocado Driver: Feeling Festive

Watch out, Father Christmas. We think our super friendly delivery drivers are even better at bringing a smile to our faces than the jolly red-suited man. They deliver your favourite Ocado products to your door all the way up to midnight on Christmas Eve.

You might know your delivery driver pretty well. But, with 100s zipping to doorsteps across the country, we want to introduce you to a few more – in the spirit of the season, of course. Grab a mince pie and get festive with our team of Christmas crackers.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

CHERYL: To run the London Marathon.

LOUISE: Keep studying hard for my degree alongside my deliveries, and hopefully taking my daughter on her first holiday.

ROBIN: No, if you don’t have one, you can’t break them!

Give us your best Christmas cracker joke

REBECCA: Why did Santa go to the hospital? Because of his poor elf.

JOHN: How does Christmas Day end? With a Y.

ROCKY: What do you call an obnoxious reindeer? Rude-olph!

How do you get Christmassy?

SIMON: Eating treats with my granddaughter and wearing silly jumpers with her.

DAVID: Wearing my Christmas hat and bringing sweets for the customers’ kids.

KEVIN: Decorating the outside of my house with as many lights as possible.

What’s been your favourite festive moment while delivering for Ocado at Christmas and New Year?

IAN: One customer gave me a Christmas box filled with biscuits, wine and cheese. It was such a lovely gesture.

CRAIG: Joining a family for mince pies and coffee on a Christmas Eve delivery. The kids were so excited and the house had a wonderful atmosphere.

ANTHONY: Being mistaken for Santa’s younger brother!

What’s your must-have Christmas food or drink?

STEVEN: Champagne and chocolates.

WILLIAM: The M&S Light Up Snow Globe Gin.

STEPHEN: Lots of gin, red wine and prosecco.

KEVIN: It would have to be Jason’s sourdough bread. It’s gorgeous dripping with melted butter and served with broccoli and stilton soup on a cold winter’s day.

SIMON

Simon has been making Ocado deliveries for four years and plans on wearing his special celebration socks when delivering this Christmas.

Where’s your favourite place to deliver to around Christmas and why?
“In and around Liverpool, because everybody makes such an effort decorating their houses with a Christmassy theme. The more OTT the better!”

If you were to deliver to customers down the chimney, Santa style, what would you want to find waiting for you?
“A Marks & Spencer Luxury Mince Pie.”

What’s your favourite festive memory delivering for Ocado at Christmas?
“One year I got a peck on the cheek under the mistletoe from a customer, at her request I hasten to add. It would have been rude to refuse!”

ZOE

Zoe has been an Ocado driver for just over two years and loves a mince pie.

What’s your favourite Christmas film and why?
“Has to be the grinch. It’s a great kids film and as you get older you realise how relatable the grinch can be at times haha.”

What’s your favourite festive memory delivering for Ocado at Christmas?
“It’s always nice being wished a merry Xmas from customers as well as wishing them one back. But it’s little kids wishing you one and giving you a little Xmas treat that really puts a smile on your face.”

If you had to choose one Christmas cracker joke to tell every customer throughout December, what would it be?
“What goes oh oh oh? Santa walking backwards.”

PAUL

Paul joined Ocado five months ago and says heated grips for his motorbike are at the top of his wish list this year.

How do you plan on getting into the festive spirit whilst delivering this year?
Some classic Christmas hits on the radio, a Santa hat to keep me warm and maybe even a Christmas-themed face mask so we can all stay safe.”

What’s your favourite Christmas film and why?
“It has to be Home Alone. I grew up in the 80s and it’s just so iconic to me.”

If you had to choose one Christmas cracker joke to tell every customer throughout December, what would it be?
“How does Good King Wenceslas like his pizzas? Deep-pan, crisp and even!”
