October is Black History Month

For the last 30 years, Black History Month has been a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black people in Britain. The aim of Black History Month is to challenge racism and teach ourselves about generations of Black history and culture that has not been taught in our schools.

As part of our commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace, Black History Month is another opportunity for us to reflect on how we operate and shine a spotlight on some of our incredible Black suppliers.

We only work with exceptional suppliers who share our Responsible Impact mission – to do good for people and our planet. The Black Farmer and CHIKA’s stand out for doing both and in the next two blog posts we’ll share their individual stories.

Internally, we have created a month-long series of events designed to inform, educate and celebrate Black culture at Ocado. One of our core values is ‘bring your best self to work’ – we know that your true self is your best self. That’s why we’re committed to making sure every single one of our colleagues feels at home at work.

We’re looking forward to African and Caribbean takeover days in the Ocado canteen, as well as talks from Black suppliers and daily Black History Month inspiration on our internal chat channel.
