Decided which recipe from yesterday’s post to try, yet? We can’t wait to make the Thai fish curry, ourselves.

Introducing… Wine of the Week

As a wine buyer with over 30 years of experience, I know how difficult buying wine can be. With so many great wines out there choosing the right wine and trying something new can be hard.Julian

That’s why we are introducing Wine of the Week. It does exactly what it says on the bottle really. I’ll simply choose a bottle of wine I think you should know about – maybe it’s new, or exclusive to Ocado, or on sale at a really great price, or maybe it just goes perfectly with roast chicken – essentially it’s the bottle of wine I’d recommend to a friend.Wine Of The Week

I’ll share it here, and on Facebook and Twitter, and hopefully along the way we’ll discover a lot of nice new wine together. If there’s anything you’d like me to talk about please feel free to leave a comment below.

And now for this week’s Wine of the Week…Merlot

 Bioletti’s Block Merlot

Grape: Merlot

Region: California

Price: £5.99 (Half Price)

About the grape: the merlot grape has its spiritual home in Bordeaux where it is blended with the slighter fuller cabernet sauvignon to give the wine more roundness and softer fruitier flavours.

The Californian variety is warmer, bigger and richer – due to warmer weather – and has an appealing plummy blackberry fruit aroma, yummy soft rich red flavours, and a pleasant long lingering finish. The Californian merlot also has less tannin, a nice medium weight and is soft with a hint of spice, making it very different to South American and European merlot.

About the wine: A lovely example of Californian merlot.

Notes: Fruity enough; without hard edges; very drinkable when served at a cool room temperature.

Drink with: Pairs really well with medium to full-flavoured red meat and perfect with hearty stews. Great with roast chicken, especially with rich stuffings and other full-flavoured accompaniments.

Price: Half Price at £5.99 until November 4th (or while stocks last)

So, that’s my first Wine of the Week. If it sounds like your kind of wine and you give it a try make sure to let me know how you find it. You can post comments here or on Facebook, but the best way to share your opinion is to leave a review on the product page.
