Feeding time at Twycross Zoo – we’re getting stuck in

I’m very excited to announce that Ocado will now be delivering dinner to the animals of Twycross Zoo! In our latest efforts against food waste (we currently only generate 0.6%) we’ll be delivering unwanted food to the Tywcross zoo keepers every week.

The food is produce which is rejected by customers or which has damaged packaging, but still perfectly edible.

Anna Westbury, Team Leader at Twycross Zoo said, “Our animals need hundreds of tonnes of forage, fruit, vegetables and meat per year, and that comes with quite a price tag. The agreement we have with Ocado doesn’t just help keep the animals well fed, it means we can spend the money we save on priority conservation and education projects.” Continue reading

Five top eco products for your baby and how to win them

This competition has now closed and the winners contacted

This week we focus on giving your baby a greener start, and have asked our baby buyer, Amisha, to select her favourite Ocado eco brands for new parents.

New Baby? Congratulations! Home delivery (no pun intended) has never been more convenient when you have a new baby. From nappies and wipes, through to washing liquids, stuff just got BIGGER and HEAVIER.

When a baby arrives in your house and heart, you really become aware of how your shopping impacts the environment now and in the future.

I have chosen some of my favourite brands that will ensure your new arrival has a small, lovely footprint on the Earth without you giving up performance and convenience.

Our top five Meat Free Monday Main Courses

Meat Free Monday is a campaign dedicated to getting people thinking about reducing Greenhouse gases by leaving meat out of their diet for one day a week: yes, you guessed it, Mondays.

We’re proud to support such a great idea that’s so good for the environment. But not only that, going meat free can be a healthy choice and reinvigorate your weekly meal choices, after all, it’s always good to mix things up in the kitchen.

To make it quick and easy to get involved in Meat Free Monday we’ve put together five of our favourite meat-free dishes.

Enjoy!

Image4. Mixed Mushroom and Basil Calzone

It’s just another Mushroom Monday! These individual calzones are filled with mushrooms and creamy mozzarella.

Full of cardamom, cloves, coriander, and cumin seeds this vegetable curry will add bags of flavor to any Monday evening. Good with lots of freshly boiled basmati rice, or naan bread.
