SPRING CLEANING TOp Tips

Follow our top tips to get your humble abode looking as fresh as a spring daisy. While you’re at it, why don’t you check out our dedicated spring clean aisle onsite.

Toothpaste – good for more than just your teeth:

Make good use of a whitening toothpaste (which is mildly abrasive), and grab an old toothbrush to leave your bathroom or kitchen grouting sparkling clean. Toothpaste can also be an easy way to tackle tough dirt on the whites of your trainers.

Grab the bicarb:
Bicarbonate of soda is so versatile when it comes to cleaning. Leave some overnight in a ramekin or mason jar and leave in the fridge overnight to absorb unwanted food odours. Clean countertops, stainless steel sinks, microwaves and tarnished sterling silver by mixing with a small amount of water. Deodorize carpets, upholstered furniture, pet beds and trainers by sprinkling some bicarb, leave for 15 mins and vacuuming it up.

Vinegar:
Use vinegar around your bathrooms and kitchen to tackle the build up of hard water. Vinegar is also a great way to clean and prevent build up of dust on your blinds. Make a one-part vinegar and one-part water combination, then drench an old sock to clean both sides of the blinds at once while minimising breakage.

Invest in a good microfibre cloth:
Perfect for cleaning mirrors, windscreens and varnished table tops, microfibre cloths are definitely worth the investment. Check out our top-rated product here. To use these cloths, just take the cloth from the pack, moisten with water then scrub lightly over stains to watch them fade away.

Speed up your laundry Drying:
Throw a towel in the drier with your sheets and clothes. It’ll help draw out some of the excess moisture and speed up the drying process.

Use Kosher salt & Lemon:
For a chemical free way to clean those tough chopping board build-ups, all you need to do is grab some kosher salt and grab a lemon and slice in half. Sprinkle kosher salt over the chopping board and rub the lemon across the board, whilst giving it a light squeeze. This will not only lift the hard-to-clean gunk but also disinfect.

Sanitise your sponges:
Finding yourself always throwing away a decent sponge because they don’t seem clean anymore? Throw your sponges in the microwave for a couple of mins and the germs will sizzle away. You can do similar things with a beauty blender too!

Keep the airing cupboard tidy:
A little organisation never hurts. Fold up the bed linen and store inside one of the accompanying pillow cases and never sleep in mismatched bedding again – you’ll thank us later.

Use Salt to clean your iron:
Lay down a sheet of baking paper over your ironing board and pour over some salt. Set your iron to warm and glide it over the paper several times in different directions. The dirt will begin to stick to the salt and will compile onto the paper rather than the iron. Simply shake off any excess once finished.
