And our Driver of the Year 2015 is…

…Terry Coles from Bristol. Congratulations!

Designed to highlight and reward safe driving, our Driver of the Year 2015 event took place on Wednesday 28th October. We selected our top-performing drivers of the year to take part in the event, and Terry came up tops out of 72 drivers in total (61 Ocado delivery drivers and 11 representatives from our sponsors). Find out more below.

The drivers took part in a series of road safety-related scenarios, such as a stopping distance simulator, a wheel-changing challenge and the Batak Pro reaction test. The three top-scoring Drivers of the Day were Terry (crowned this year’s Driver of the Year), followed by Olubumi Balogun-Adeola (also from Bristol) in second place, and Stephen Charlesworth from Dartford in third.

Terry joined after an incredible 20 years at his former company:

“My office closed at the beginning of this year (2015) and I was made redundant. It was my wife who suggested I try something different: she mentioned Ocado as she had seen the vans driving around. I applied for a job and was offered a position in Bristol just two weeks after leaving my previous role.

I was shocked and surprised when when my name was called for first place at Ocado Driver of The Year 2015, as I thought I had no chance of winning with so many other great Ocado drivers. I felt very proud of myself and honoured to bring my trophy to Bristol.”

Well done again, Terry – we’re really proud of our safest drivers, and will continue to work hard with them to deliver your groceries safe and sound. A massive thank you to our sponsors for their generous donations and support in making the event a great success: our main sponsor Mercedes-Benz; S&B Commercials; Paneltex, Aviva; Capita; Driver Require; SmartDrive; Michelin; BP Rolls Group; AW Agents; ATS Euromaster; Sopp and Sopp; Balfour Beatty; Ocado Insurance and Hill Dickinson.
