It’s so rare that our passions in life come together. Imagine my excitement then when, a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity of combining Formula 1 racing with top-notch organic food. Exactly!
I’ll start from the top. Laverstoke Park Farm is the brainchild of Formula 1 legend Jody Scheckter. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the produce is grown with the utmost care for the environment, and tastes absolutely phenomenal.
My team and I headed down to Hampshire to look around the farm and discuss a rather exciting project, our Laverstoke Park Farm Shop. During our tour of the park, we were overwhelmed by the effort and passion which goes into nuturing not just the animals, but the soil itself.
Buffalo, rare-breed cattle, pigs and sheep are dotted about the landscape, but in the background, high-tech composting facilities and soil-testing equipment ensure that the land is as healthy and productive as possible. And all without the faintest whiff of chemical nasties.
And so to the tasting room. We were treated to a lunch of, among other things, buffalo and peppercorn pie, wild boar burgers and fresh mozzarella, all washed down with their own ale and lager. And to finish (not to rub it in) buffalo milk ice cream. Sounds bizarre, tastes fantastic. Try it.
